Study on the Change of High Order Aberrations by Refractive Errors

Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to provide basic data to help research to improve the quality of vision by comparing the correlation with high order aberrations according to refractive errors and high order aberrations between myopia, emmetropia and hyperopia groups.

Methods : Refractive and high-order aberrations test were measured using i-Profilerplus.
High-order aberrations were compared with the Zernike coefficients up to the 4th order of coma, trefoil, spherical, astigmatism, and quadrafoil aberrations in the Zernike polynomial.

Results : The coma, spherical, quatrefoil, and the astigmatism aberrations were higher aberrations in women than men. The trefoil aberration was higher aberrations in men than women. Among the high order aberrations of the myopia, emmetropia and hyperopia groups, the coma aberration was the highest at hyperopia with 0.069¡¾0.049 ¥ìm. The trefoil aberration was the highest in hyperopia with 0.084¡¾0.072 ¥ìm. The spherical aberration was the highest in emmetropia with 0.025¡¾0.043 ¥ìm, astigmatism aberration was the highest in emmetropia with 0.028¡¾0.024 ¥ìm, and the quatrefoil aberration was the highest in hyperopia with 0.031¡¾0.031 ¥ìm. The correlation between the refractive errors and the high order aberrations showed the lower the myopia and the higher hyperopia the more correlated in the positive direction.

Conclusion : High-order aberrations showed that trefoil aberration was the highest in the emmetropia and hyperopia groups, while coma aberration was the highest in the myopic group.
